Abstract

The piece “Gone, But Not Forgotten: Toronto’s Immigrants Struggle to Move On,” wins a honourable mention for the compelling story it tells about immigrants in Toronto. Instead of focusing on the new beginnings and new opportunities that immigrants are presented with, this piece explores what these people left behind. The author tells this story by interviewing four different individuals who have moved to Toronto from Turkey, India, China, and Israel. They have all experienced some sort of political instability in different ways, but they all share the struggle to move past the fear and sadness about their past life. Those who read this piece will not only get to see a different perspective on the life of immigrants and gain an understanding of what they are going through, but they will also be reminded of the issues occurring around the world.
